Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has initiated the provision of free meals to no fewer than 10,000 fasting Muslims in Kano through the Aliko Dangote Foundation as part of his efforts to assist the public during Ramadan.
This was announced in a statement signed by a foundation officer, Samira Sanusi, and made accessible to the press in Kano on Monday. She added that the generosity was extended by delivering one million sacks of rice valued more than N13 billion across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja to alleviate hunger in the country.
Mrs. Sanusi stated that this initiative aims to alleviate suffering for millions of Nigerians facing economic hardships.
She also said that, in addition to distributing 20,000 loaves of bread daily to Kano locals and 15,000 daily to Lagos inhabitants, a feeding gesture began and has continued since 2020 during the COVID.
She stated that the Ramadan free prepared supper contains jollof rice, white rice and stew, jollof spaghetti, yam, beans with chicken and beef, packaged with a bottle of water and drink for each individual.
According to her, the packed lunches are provided in Juma’at mosques, streets, jails, orphanages, remand homes, and other locations around Kano City and its surroundings.
The statement did, however, reveal that a recipient of the lunch, Musa Maikatako, a Tarauni resident, expressed gratitude for the gesture, which he said helped him break his fast more easily.
Maikatako implied that the free lunch will alleviate the pain of many people who would otherwise break their fasts with only water and no food, given Nigerians’ economic misery.
“I can’t express how thrilled I am. This dinner will go a long way toward allowing underprivileged folks like me to break our fast with some solid food to eat.”
“I know a lot of people in this state who could break their fast on water alone. So this dinner is a huge relief,” he explained.
While expressing satisfaction, Maikatako thanked the Dangote Foundation for the gift and prayed to God to enhance his riches and continue to bless his business.
Another beneficiary, Hajiya Inna Tukur, expressed her happiness at the food delivery, claiming that the Aliko Dangote Foundation had come to her help. She expressed her joy at receiving such good food for free during this difficult time.
Hsjiya Tukur stated, “In this adversity, when we find it impossible to eat even twice a day, but out of the blue, somebody provided this excellent food.
“All I have to say is thank you to you and Aliko Dangote. I hope to God to continue to bless you.”
Mrs. Sanusi said that Aliko Dangote has been secretly feeding the destitute in Kano for over 30 years, in addition to the 4-year-old free bread delivery.
Dangote has worked from his mother’s house in Koki and from a variety of cooking places.
She went on to say, “This feeding program feeds 10,000 Kano residents daily with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a unique feat that has been in existence for over 30 years” .
