Today, Governor Bello named Alhaji Muhammad Tijani Anaje the “New Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.”
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has made a historic declaration designating Alhaji Muhammad Tijani Anaje as the esteemed “Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.” For the whole Ebira community as well as Alhaji Muhammad Tijani Anaje, this appointment marks a historic turning point.
The Ohinoyi stool became vacant in October last year following the demise of 94-year-old Alhaji (Dr) Ado Ibrahim, who was the second Ohinoyi or the fourth independent traditional ruler of Ebiraland.
The Ebira people are an ethnic-linguistic group of central Nigeria. Ebira means behavior when translated literally with ethics and hospitality as compliments. The unique features of Ebira culture with its ethnic aestheticism are appreciated most in the event of traditional marriages.
The largest socio-political unit among the Ebira was the clan-group locally called Ekura. About six of such clan-groups survive to the present. They are Okengwe, Okehi, Adavi, Eika, Ihima, and Eganyi. Though each was self autonomous, they however related on issues of common concern.
