The demise of Alhaji Dr. Ado Ibrahim, the esteemed Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, at the age of 95, marks the end of an era. After a brief battle with illness, he breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday morning(29/10/2023). It had been a period of declining health, necessitating his admission to a private hospital in Abuja.
Ebiraland mourns Ado Ibrahim, the influential fourth Ohinoyi. Born Feb 7, 1929, his education started in mixed Western-Quranic schools. He finished primary education in 1940 at NA Primary School in Okene, Kogi State.
His quest for knowledge propelled him to Ondo Boys High School and later to Oduduwa College, where he distinguished himself and graduated in 1949. His academic pursuit took him further, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the prestigious London School of Economics in 1954. Furthering his education, he attained a master’s degree from Harvard Business School in 1959.
In 1997, a new chapter began as Ado Ibrahim was crowned the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, a momentous occasion presided over by the late Governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu. He succeeded his esteemed predecessor Alhaji Sanni Omolori, who had held the mantle from 1957 to 1997.
As we gather to bid farewell to this distinguished leader, we reflect on his legacy, one that transcends boundaries and impacts generations. Ado Ibrahim’s contributions to Ebiraland and beyond will forever be etched in the annals of history. May his soul find eternal peace.
