The Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom has awarded a grant to Professor Ishaya Musa Dagwa of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Abuja.
The project is titled: “Enhancing the Mechanical Engineering Design Curriculum for Manufacturing Capabilities of Micro Small Medium Enterprises with Computer Aided-Engineering.” The grant was offered by the Academy under its Higher Education Partnerships in sub-Saharan Africa (HEP SSA) scheme 22/24.
HEP SSA which is expected to start on Friday 21st October 2022 will last till 31st August 2024. The professor of Manufacturing Engineering is the Awardee and the Principal Contact in the project. In his team, the collaborators include Coventry University, UK partner; University of Benin (UniBen), Benin city; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi; Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna); while the industrial partners are Mustard Seed Hi-Tech Ltd, Numan and Austlinks Energy Services Ltd., Port Harcourt.
The project aims to ensure that the higher education system in sub-Saharan Africa produces engineers with the skills and knowledge required to meet the needs of industry, address local challenges including the shortage of engineering skills in sub-Saharan Africa.
In a statement released today, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has congratulated Dagwa, describing him as an exceptional engineering academic and researcher.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, praised Dagwa and called him an exceptional engineering academic and researcher in a statement that was released today.
He said,“I congratulate you on this incredible award by the Royal Academy of Engineering. The University will be proud of this feat and I commend the hard work, brilliance and dedication of Professor Dagwa. It is gratifying that the UofA has continued to excel in world-class research and industry collaboration and has made significant achievements in this area this academic session.”
A very successful project execution is also wished for by the University community for Prof. Dagwa and his team.
