Maniru Ibrahim- A Nigerian Math Genius Who Won €20 million PhD fellowship


The smart young man, who goes by Maniru Ibrahim, graduated with honors in mathematics from Nigeria. In 2017, he earned his degree from Usman Danfodio University in Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria.

Maniru received a fully financed scholarship that will allow him to pursue his PhD at Limerick University in Ireland for no additional cost last year. He has was granted a fellowship through a €20 million (over 8 billion naira) Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Centre for Research Training (CRT) in Foundations of Data Science initiative.

In addition to a travel and lodging allowance for trips to CRT partner institutions, business and industry partners, foreign collaborators, and conferences both nationally and internationally, the program offers a tax-free stipend of €18,500 each year for four years.

He was the only African on the shortlist for the program, which is the first of its type. ICT-related issues will be resolved to simplify life and technology.
