On Monday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the establishment of 37 new private universities across the Nigeria (including Muhammed Kamaldeen University) following a memo presented by the Ministry of Education.

After the special meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, while briefing journalists noted that the development brings to 72 the total number of universities licensed by the Buhari administration since 2015. He stated that the approval was given considering the importance of education in bolstering the economic fortunes of the country.

Similarly, a reliable source said, the Muhammed Kamaldeen University has been granted approval to start academic operation. The university is the initiative of the late Muslim sage and Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Kamaldeen al-Adaby. He was also the founder of the popular Ansar-ul-Islam Society. The late sage has contributed to the development of both Arabic and Western education in Ilorin and beyond.

In 2022, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq made a personal donation of at least N20m to fast track the take off of the Muhammad Kamaldeen University, Ilorin, calling the project a worthy investment in human capital development and urging wealthy individuals to support it.
