
One of the senior scholars of our times, Saleh bin Muhammad al-Luhaydan رحمه الله تعالى died on Wednesday 2nd Jumadaa Al-Thani 1443AH/7th January 2022 after suffering from illness. He was a member of the Council of Senior Scholars and chief teacher at Masjid Al Haram, to the wise leadership, scholars, judges, and the Islamic nation.
Born in the city of Bukayriyah, in the Qassim region in 1350 AH, Sheikh Saleh belongs to the Al-Luhaidan family, whose lineage ends with Ismail bin Rumaih Al-Areni (d. 970 AH).
Sheikh Salih al-Luhaydan was a member of the senior scholars of Saudi Arabia fervent in spreading the teachings of Islam to the masses. An example of this would be his lectures that would be delivered in the Haram, consequently attracting a large number of attendees.
He has held several positions, including a member of the Council of Senior Scholars since its establishment, a member of the Muslim World League, and the former head of the Supreme Judicial Council until 2009. Since 1992, Sheikh Salih is considered the first influential person in the Supreme Judicial Council.
Similarly, Sheikh Salih also served as president of the General Court in Riyadh between 1964 and 1970, a judge of cassation, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council in 1970. He was active in the Islamic Al-Raya magazine, its director and editor-in-chief, and had lessons in the Grand Mosque that were broadcast, and fatwas on the Noor on the Path program. He had lectures, seminars, and participation in the discussion of master’s and doctoral theses.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala says: “Have they not seen that we gradually reduce the land from its outlying borders. (Surat Ar-Ra’ad)
Tafseer At-Tabaree states: it was narrated by Ataa on the authority of Ibn Abbas RadiyAllahu Anhu and he said: the tafseer of this ayah is with the departure of its scholars and fuqahaa’ and the best of it’s people.

Shaykh Yahya Silmy hafidhahullah said:
انا لله وانا إليه راجعون
Death of the scholars are great times of trials for the Ummah
Let all remember the deaths and the importance of the people of knowledge for they are the spirit of the Ummah.
It is time we consider and take care of the knowledge learning and action upon it to preserve the community from deviant paths and the anger of Allah.
