Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has appointed Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah as their new leader following the death of its President Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad last week.
The Iwo born Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah was formerly the Vice President I of the Council, where he worked harmoniously and conscientiously with the late President. Shaykh AbdulRasheed Hadiyatullahi is a first class Islamic scholar and a mentee of the highly respected and legendary late Shaykh Murtada Abdul Salaam of Ita Bale, Ibadan. An alumni of the Arabic Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan and the University of Madina in Saudi Arabia. Recently, he received the Osun Lifetime Achievement Award from the government of the State of Osun.
After paying a condolence visit to the families of late Datti Ahmad in his Kano residence, the council made the announcement at a news conference on Monday.

The Secretary General of the Council, Nafi’u Baba Ahmed, said, “As we grieve over this great loss, in total submission to Allah and in line with the Constitution of the Council, Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah, who was the Vice President of the Council, is now the new President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.
“We pray Allah SWT to grant him the wisdom and guidance to further the noble objectives of the Council, in particular, the unity and progress of the Ummah,” he added.
Meanwhile, notable Islamic clerics from the North such as Sheikh Abdulwahab Abdallah, Sheikh Ibrahim Khaliel, Malam Abba Koki and Malam Sani Yakubu were in attendance at the news conference.
