Nigerian Scholar, Prof. Khidr Abdul Baaqi Muhammad Receives Two Awards in Egypt


His Excellency Professor Khidr Abdul Baaqi Muhammad, the pride of all African Arabists south of the Sahara and their crown, during the week received the Excellence and Academic Merit Award from the Hamasa Festival for Literature and Arts in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Similarly, according to report, after humbly nominating some scholars for this award in past years, Professor Khidr could not escape being the recipient this year, in addition to being crowned with the title of “Best Scholar of the Year and the Greatest Role Model for All African Students.” It is said that the same award previously received by the esteemed scholar, Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory, may Allah have mercy on him.

Brief Biography of Professor Khidr Abdul Baaqi Muhammad

Professor Khidr Abdul Baqi Muhammad is a Nigerian citizen and son of Shaikh Abdul Baaqi Muhammad. He hails from Osun State. He was born in the 1970s and is a professor and sub-dean at the Department of Professional Journalism, Faculty of Information and Communication, in Imam Muhammad bn Saud Islamic University. He is passionate about promoting the unity of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria, and his work extends beyond Nigeria to other countries. He has a PhD in International Journalism, and his expertise includes International Journalism and Africo-Arabian Cultural Relations.

He is a member of several committees, societies, and associations and has received multiple awards for his academic work. Currently, he is the Director, Nigerian Centre for Arabic Researches, Nigeria. He has delivered lectures in a number of universities, academic and intellectual centres cut across various Arabia countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Sudan and France.

Among his experiences and memberships also we may mention that he is member, Executive Office, and chairman, Media committee of the Union of African Scholars, Bamako, Mali, member and former Assistant Secretary General for Asian and African Writers ‘Society in Cairo, member, committee of Naif Medal Award for Sunnah and Contemporary Studies in Islam, Saudi. He is also Co-coordinator of academic relation, Arab Tongue Society for Arabic Language Welfare in African Universities, Cairo, Member, Saudi Society for Public Relations and Information, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Consultant, African Readings Magazine, Riyadh, Member, Team of Consultants for an Academic Forum tagged:” Towards strategization of Cultural and Intellectual Peace in the Islamic World “., Naif Arabic University for Peace Studies in the period between 28 -30 October, 2013, Riyadh.

Prof. Khidr Abdul Baqi Muhammad was honoured by the Award for service to Arabic Language in Africa, by the League of Arab States, Cairo, 2005, the Academic Performance Award by African Union, 2006 and the Medal Award for National Contributions in the Service to African Matters, by Asian and African Writers ‘Society, Cairo, 2006. He has to his credit both published and unpublished academic studies and researches more than 20 and has attended various intellectual and academic seminars and conferences spread across local, national and international ones.
