Ige Aminat Olawunmi: UNILAG Overall Best Graduating Ph.D. Thesis Award Winner

Dr. Aminat Olawunmi Ige has emerged the Overall Best Graduating Doctoral Thesis Award Winner at the 54th Convocation of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Her thesis titled “O-Metric Spaces: A Novel Unification and Generalisation of Metric-Type Spaces with Applications in Fixed Point Theory” was not just the best in the department of Mathematics from where she graduated but in the entire university for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Dr. Ige Aminat Olawunmi, commonly referred to as Chief Aminat Olawunmi Ige is a social entrepreneur, researcher, poet, mathematician, motivational speaker, and supporter of young people and girls. The YOA Foundation, a non Government organization concerned with empowering the youth, encouraging the girl-child and developing the society, was founded by her. Another well-known aspect of the charity is the Yeye Oge Aminat charity Annual Mathematics Competition. She was born in the 1980s in Lagos, Nigeria, in the illustrious town of Akesan, according to YOA Foundation.

Dr. Ige, who is also an alumnus of Lagos State University, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, will receive the award of the overall best graduating doctoral thesis award and Best in Sciences which comprises of Engineering, Medicine and Faculty of Science on Thursday, 18th January 2023, at the 54th Convocation Ceremonies of University of Lagos.

Work & Experience

Ige Aminat Olawunmi bagged a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics at the prestigious Lagos State University (LASU), an M.Sc. degree in Mathematics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and a Ph.D in Mathematics from UNILAG respectively. She also holds a Change Management Registered Practitioner Certificate (CMRP) from the renowned APMG international.

She is well experienced in teaching Mathematics which has been displayed at Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) and Lagos state University (LASU).

Ige Aminat Olawunmi was an Assessor with the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) before she joined the banking industry where she immediately displayed her brilliance by emerging the best graduating student at the foundation school, a feat which placed her banking career on a fast track.

Awarded the best indigenous undergraduate student in Akesan in the year 2007, Yeye Oge Aminat has several academic scholarship awards to her name including the famous Lagos state scholarship, Lagos state university scholar and the University of Lagos Teaching Assistant Scholarship awards.

Dr. Aminat was awarded the title of ‘Akesan Peace Ambassador 2017’ by Peace Vision and Care Foundation.
