The Almighty is sound in His ways of both punishment and compassion, bestowing them respectively on those who deserve them. He is firm in punishment as much as He is just in bestowing His favours. He will never be biased in His judgement, giving undeserving reward to deeds put forth by His creatures, but rather just, giving the exact and most accurate recompense to actions in the most proportionate order that no man is capable of achieving.
For the fact that anything extended out, as an action, is what one would be paid for in reward from Allah SWT, it is befitting to say that our disposition in certain ways and doings of certain nature – good or bad – form a network/chain of events, leading to divine rewards, that eventually ricochet their ways into our scale of record. Putting out good will follow the chain of goodness and hit the spot that eventually rebounds goodness towards the doer, while its counterpart action will follow an opposite route that eventually births what is deserving of it. This is in accordance with what has been designed by the Almighty, which is “Then, as for those who believed and did righteous good deeds, their Lord will admit them to His Mercy. That will be the evident success.” [Al-Jathiya 45:30].
Mercy begets mercy and compassion in return, and unmercifulness manifests discomfort, unpleasantness to both the one wearing such shoe and sometimes, his area/region of influence. It should, however, be noted that Allah is quick to show mercy than He is, to inflicting sanction. In a case of sin, we can be sure of punishment delay for a while, until the perpetrator repents, but good deeds have no delay, or whatsoever, in its rewards, for our Creator derives no interest in grieving us up with His punishment. Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: “Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant when he turns penitently towards Him than one of you would be on finding the lost camel.” Humans are prone to error and when the pangs of error strikes, we should be able to shift back to the consciousness of our wrongdoing, so as to spark the desire for repentance, which is the best for us.
The ingredients to a favorable existence, starting from an individual scale to the wider world at large, rests upon a number of factors among which showing mercy upon one another carries a top badge. The channel/passage/chain through which the effect of our merciful gestures courses, is what we can hold a perfect assurance for, concerning its beneficial returning rewards from Allah SWT.
Making mercifulness a norm, is a guaranteed path to the mercy of Allah, for only He, Al-Raheem, possesses the most perfect attribute of compassion.
