The 92nd National Day of Saudi Arabia was celebrated yesterday, Friday, September 23, 2022, at the ambassador’s official residence in Maitama, Abuja, by the chairman/CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, and the ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, Mr. Faisal bin Ibrahim Al-Ghamidy.

The Saudi reception was showing the importance of Saudi Arabia International diplomacy as the majority of diplomats, ambassadors were present there to show their solidarity.

Saudi Independence

The two kingdoms of Nejd and Hejaz were unified and renamed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by a royal decree from King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud on September 23, 1932. Thus, Abdul Aziz became the first king of the KSA.

When Hussein bin Ali rose up against the Ottoman Empire during World War I in 1916, he established the Hashimite Kingdom of Hejaz. The newly established kingdom only had a short existence before being overrun by the neighboring Sultanate of Nejd in 1924, led by a resurgent House of Saud.

The Saudis overcame the Hashimites during 1925–1926 and seized Hejaz. In the end, in 1926, the Kingdoms of Hejaz and Nejd were established. The two kingdoms were finally merged to form the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932.
