A three-man team from the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), led by Alhaji Razak Oladejo, visited the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). Alhaji Zikirullah Kunle Hassan, Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for their visit.

He acknowledged the urgency and difficulties of this year’s Hajj but said that it had been a learning experience for the Commission. He also said that the Commission would soon start planning for the 2023 Hajj.

Alhaji Hassan commented on the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS), saying that because it was a novel idea in the country, it was bound to experience some growing pains. Nevertheless, he was optimistic that, over time, the program would be immensely beneficial to the nation, much like in Malaysia and Indonesia, where the proceeds from a related program were used to subsidize the cost of performing the Hajj this year and in years past. In addition, he emphasized that the Nigerian Muslim Ummah as a whole would benefit from HSS, not just NAHCON.

In three months, the Hajj Institute would be formally established, and President Muhammadu Buhari was expected to declare it open. Alhaji Hassan also revealed that the first group of students enrolling in the Institute would consist of him, his Commissioners, and some of the Management Staff of the Commissions.

The head of the MUSWEN delegation, Alhaji Razak Oladejo, praised the Commission for the successful 2022 Hajj activities despite the difficulties. He also gave praise to several of the programs the NAHCON Chairman had mentioned. He expressed his opinion that the Commission would benefit financially from the Hajj Savings Scheme. He stressed the significance of the Hajj Institute in order to professionally standardize the services provided to pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah.

Alhaji Oladejo further urged the NAHCON Boss for uniformity in regulations and sanctions against violators, claiming that doing so would help clean up the Hajj sector.
