This is the story of Baba Awe, a wizard who converted to Islam in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The full video interview with Baba Awe by Waliyulah Olayiwola. 

When we presented the question about the Osanyin, I deliberately left out the name.

I wanted our interviewees to give it (or him) a name by themselves.

I said some people could not believe that some spirit somewhere speaks.
Some took the story with a pinch of salt.

They saw it as a folklore meant to interest or scare small children. It was a question I directed to Baba Awe himself.

But the mama, his young wife, cuts in impatiently. She laughed and invited us to talk to the Osanyin ourselves if we wanted.

I didn’t see any need for it. This is meant to be a revelation to liberate a lot of people from darkness. Not the other way round.

Speaking with an Osanyin might have been counterproductive. It may increase some people in belief and it may deepen the disbelief for others.

But if left to me, I’ll speak with the osanyin. I’ll commend him or her for his or her da’wah. Then talk to him more about Taoheed (monotheism) and the need to not associate partners with Allah in worship, in His names and attributes or His Lordship.

It’s not just enough to pray five times a day. It’s important you don’t call anyone beside Allah. It’s also important you don’t allow people to take you as a partner beside Allah.

Laa ilaha illa Allah! No deity is worthy of worship except Allah.

I would have said all this to the Osanyin. But the reasons I’ve already shared above didn’t make me do it.

Also, I am a bloody sinner, lowly student of knowledge and not an Islamic scholar.

I feel this task should be left to other more worthy scholars who know exactly what to do when engaging a Jinn or if things go out of hands.

In any case, I was in ablution when I left for the interview. It’s a protection I believe so much in.

I can quickly establish any act of worship in that state. I have casted out a Jinn before with the grace of Allah. But I’m not an exorcist and neither do I claim to be.

The exorcism was an accidental encounter. And it’s either us or that particular spirit.

Some people would still read this, smile and probably shakes their head.
These Muslims and their fabu. LOL

If that’s you, I hail you thee.

Ablution is the first thing I do anytime I suspect an encounter might become somewhat supernatural. I have no power or might by myself. But with Allah Whom I have absolute trust, everything else is inconsequential and powerless.

With that being said, if you have been following this story for sometime, here are my thoughts to you on your take away from this aside other positive ones you’ve conjured yourself.

1. Admonition

This event might be spooky and interesting. But the goal is to admonish you and the rest of us.
There’s only One worthy of worship and His name is Allah.

Please consider stop dwelling in your sinful ways. Don’t let things clear away from your eyes when death catches up with you.

Repent from your sins and turn a new leaf.
Dont delay your prayers and don’t abandon it.
Even Osanyin prays as this research establishes.

2. Da’wah

Calling towards the way of your Lord, Allah.
Invite people to Islam with wisdom and the best of sermon.
Even an Osanyin did da’wah.

3. Revelation

Yes, this is a revelation. There’s another world of the unseen.
The world of the Jinns and Angels.

This should make you belief in the six articles of faith. Elsewhere, seeing is believing. In Islam, seeing and unseeing is believing. Meaning, we believe what is seen and what is not seen.
Don’t attempt to explain everything away with science.

If you’ve ever encountered a spirit before and they attack you (God forbid), you’ll understand that the world of science and that of magic has a point of conflux.

I have few spooky encounters before and I can tell you first hand, There is more to the unseen world. Protect yourself with sunnatic adhkaar at all times.

But no need to be afraid of the unseen. They too fear your Creator. And if they see that you’re close to Him, they’ll respect you and leave you alone.

4. Extract Yours

Yes, please extract your own lessons and work on it.
A day will come when you’ll no longer be here.

A Day of Reckoning is coming.
Remember that.
