Professor of Economics Olufemi Muibi Saibu, the first Director of the Institute of Nigeria-China Development Studies at the University of Lagos (INCDS-UNILAG), Nigeria, has once again demonstrated the UNILAG faculty and students’ distinctive winning spirit.
This was noted in a statement by the University recently. The statement said: This is evidenced by his recent receipt of a research grant from the European Commission’s European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) for a research project titled “African-European Union Connectivity (EU-AFRICA CONNECT)” as part of the Jean Monet Actions in the Field of Higher Education Modules Programme.
Professor Saibu’s outstanding work has resulted in the University of Lagos (UNILAG) being named the project’s sole beneficiary, with experts from the University of Pavia in Italy serving as associate partners.
The project, which aims to train undergraduate students in Nigeria to create, execute, and evaluate EU social, political, economic, and EU-Africa integration policies, will also act as a vehicle for encouraging open and mutually beneficial policy discourse for Africa-EU integration.
Dr Kolawole Olonade Jointly Wins £12,000 Royal Society Research Grant
The program will take a step-by-step approach, beginning with a summer school on Africa-EU Connectivity, then moving on to a research and policy analysis workshop, and finally to a conference on European Union and African integration.
The study will run for three (3) years, from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025, with a research grant of €26,500.00 split into two instalments.
Biography
Olufemi Saibu is a Professor of Development Macroeconomics with special interest in financial inclusiveness, economic livelihood and sustainable development in the Department of Economics of University of Lagos Nigeria. He had B.Sc (Ed), M.Sc n PhD in Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife between 1993 and 2006 and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of University of Johannesburg South Africa in 2012/2013.
He started is academic career in 2001 at Obafemi Awolowo university and rose to the position of Senior lecturer in 2007. He joined the service of University of Lagos in 2011 and became Professor in 2016. With his 17 years of academic work experience, he had over fifty publications and contribution to books. He has mentored about six PhD students and several Master degree students.
