Mohammed Bashir, the agency’s state commander, and his entourage visited the Abubakar Sadiq Juma’at mosque in Filin Samji and the Rafukka Juma’at mosque in Kofar Sauri, both in the state capital, according to NAN.
The daily Ramadan lectures bring together Muslims to hear interpretations and explanations of the Holy Qur’an.
Mr Bashir, speaking at the Rafukka Juma’at mosque during the campaign, said the goal was to educate parents and teenagers about the dangers of illegal drug and hard substance use.
“Religious, traditional and community leaders and parents have a great role to play to assist the Federal Government in fighting the menace.
“If those leaders mentioned above can put all hands on the deck, nobody can engage in selling or illegally use drugs in their communities,” he stressed.
He urged parents to do everything in their power to prevent their children from being addicted to drugs.
Mr. Bashir also urged Islamic scholars to continue to use their sermons to educate the public about the grave risks of drug misuse.
Sheikh Husamat Katsina, the Imam of Rafukka Juma’at mosque, responded by saying that such an initiative was a positive development because “the threat impacts everyone.”
He stated that the problem may be solved if all stakeholders banded together to confront the issue.
The Sheikh praised the NDLEA for bringing the campaign to places of worship, particularly during Ramadan daily lectures.
