Over 200 Scholars Participate in the Opening of Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema Symposium in Abuja

The International Scientific Symposium; “African Islamic Heritage between Memory and History” was launched on October 29 and the meeting continues until October 31, 2021. At the event more than 200 scientists participated from 40 African countries.

The event was organized by the Mohammad VI Foundation Of African Scholars at the Hilton Hotel Abuja, in the presence of Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar CFR; Minister of the Federal Capital Abuja, Hajj Mahmoud Bello; Muhammad Musa Bello, the Ambassador from the Kingdom of Morocco to Nigeria, Moha Ou Ali Tagma, ambassadors from Arab and African countries accredited to Abuja, the president of the Foundation’s Section in Nigeria, Sheikh Sharif Ibrahim Saleh Al-Hussaini, the presidents of the national sections of the Foundation , as well as other eminent personalities.

The International Scientific Symposium aims to discover the African Islamic heritage, its components, and its stages of development and the contributions of various environments, among many other objectives, says a statement from the event’s organizers.

Similarly, the meeting goal is preservation of African Islamic manuscripts in particular, through the identification of their nature, centers, the problems and dangers that threaten them and the ways of promoting and preserving them from deterioration and loss, the same source says.

Also, the organizers establish scientific mechanisms to discover the manuscripts, catalogue them, disseminate and preserve them, using modern technology, as well as restore the damaged ones, digitize them and make them available to researchers.

The conference also explore ways of using these manuscripts for the purpose of cultural and social development, and also to use them in consolidating the values of peace and religious tolerance among the peoples of the African continent, irrespective of the differences in their languages, races and religions.

This international event is structured around four sub-themes focusing respectively on African Islamic manuscript heritage, acculturation among African Muslim peoples through common heritage, Islamic manuscript heritage in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the reality of African Islamic heritage in order to cover the different aspects of African Islamic heritage, past and present, and how to benefit from it and preserve it.
