The founder of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme, Abdul Qadeer Khan. He was 85. Khan died in Islamabad on Sunday of cardiac failure. He had been admitted to the city’s KRL hospital in August with Covid-19. After returning home several weeks ago, he was rushed back after his condition deteriorated.
Also known as AQ Khan, the scientist was instrumental in setting up Pakistan’s first nuclear enrichment plant at Kahuta near Islamabad. By 1998, the country had conducted its first nuclear tests.
The news of Khan’s death prompted an outpouring of grief and praise for his legacy.
Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi said in a tweet he was “deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan”, who he had known personally since 1982.
“He helped us develop nation-saving nuclear deterrence and a grateful nation will never forget his services.”
A social media user, Iqra Haqeer said in his comment about Abdul Qadeer Khan’s influence around the world on Facebook;
Mostly his name is taken with Pakistan because he is born in that land..
But for his achievement and work Muslim world is proud of him..
No matter how much clock move on.. How much centuries passed by, Muslim world will remember him for the safety shield he placed across them.. Making Pakistan atomic Power means he let the Muslims to open there wings and see the world eye to eye..
He let the Muslim world to stand in the same line with rest of the world..His name, birth belong to Pakistan but His life belong to the Muslim world..
