Alhaji Yekinni Adeojo, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has passed away. He departed this world on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Chief Yekini Adeojo was an elder statesman, a political colossus, and a pillar of democracy in Oyo State and Nigeria at large. As the first PDP gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, a former member of the PDP Board of Trustees, and a key mentor to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, he played a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of our state and the nation.
Beyond his political contributions, Chief Adeojo was a distinguished religious leader, serving as the Seriki Adinni of Yoruba Muslims, a role in which he demonstrated immense commitment to the propagation of peace, unity, and religious harmony. His influence extended beyond politics and religion into philanthropy, community development, and the upliftment of countless individuals.
His legacy continues through his children, including Hon. Sheriff Adeojo, the Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, and Hon. Elias Adeojo, the Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation and so many other great kids that came from his loins. His passing is a monumental loss to his family, the PDP, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.
He was buried according to Islamic rites at his GRA Iyaganku residence, Ibadan. It was a solemn and spiritual gathering as family, friends, and community members converged to pay their last respect to the elder statesman.
The funeral was well attended by dignitaries and well-meaning Nigerians including the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Adebayo Lawal who represented the Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde; the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus; Chairman MiTV, Alhaji Muri Gbade Busari; Aree Musulumi of Yorubaland, Chief Dauda Makanjuola among others.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has mourned the death of Alhaji Adeojo. The governor, who described Alhaji Adeojo as one of the last men standing, said his death marked the end of a glorious political era. Makinde expressed his condolences to the family of Adeojo, praying to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the exit of their patriarch.
Similarly, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) described the late statesman as a beacon of wisdom and political colossus, who impacted many lives positively across religious and political divides. The lawmaker said that the late Seriki was respected as a unifying figure whose influence spread beyond politics. He noted that Adeojo’s deep knowledge of political strategy and Islamic teachings earned him respect across Yorubaland and Nigeria.
