The Prophet’s Mosque, Islam’s second holiest site in Medina, Saudi Arabia, welcomed 5.03 million worshippers last week, supported by a seamless network of services, according to official figures.
The General Authority for the Care of the Prophet’s Mosque reported that 269,238 Muslims visited and prayed at Al Rawda Al Sharifa, where the tomb of Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) is located.
These visits were conducted under strict crowd-management protocols, with separate access schedules for men and women. -Advertisement- Ads by Saudi authorities have reiterated that visitors to Al Rawda Al Sharifa must book reservations in advance and adhere to their designated appointment times for smooth access.
Meanwhile, 10,302 non-Arabic-speaking worshippers from various nationalities benefited from multilingual communication services provided at the mosque, the state agency noted. Sterilisation and disinfection efforts across the mosque involved the use of 21,181 liters of cleaning agents over the week.
Additionally, 1,360 tons of Zamzam water were provided, and 134,085 fast-breaking (Iftar) meals were distributed at designated areas within the mosque.
Following Umrah (minor pilgrimage) at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, many pilgrims travel to Medina to pray at the Prophet’s Mosque and visit its historic Islamic landmarks.
In 2023, more than 280 million Muslims prayed at the mosque.
