On Friday, 8th November 2024, the Ibapon Central Mosque, Ogbomoso, was officially commissioned by His Excellency Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It was a fantastic day in Ibapon town, Ogbomosho South, Oyo State, as Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari, one of their distinguished sons in the 10th Assembly, representing the Oyo North Senatorial District, constructed a mosque that was appropriate for the twenty-first century.
Other notable guests at the occasion are, His Excellency Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Executive Governor of Kwara State, Senator Barau I. Jibrin,Deputy Senate President, Barr. Bayo Lawal, Deputy Governor of Oyo State.
Similarly, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, Soun of Ogbomoso, His Royal Majesty, Oba Khalid Olabisi, Ilugbemidepo, Okere of Sakiland, and all other traditional rulers present at the epoch-making event and Baba Sheik Muyideen Ajani Bello was the guest lecturer.
Ogbomoso is a city in Oyo State, south-western Nigeria. It was founded in the mid 17th century. The population was approximately 655,517 in 2024. It is the second largest city in Oyo State and also among the most populated in Nigeria. It is the 3rd most populated city in South Western Nigeria after Lagos and Ibadan.
In Ogbomosho, faith takes many forms, with Christians, muslims, and traditionalists living side by side. The city’s streets echo with the hymns and call to prayer, a testament to the deep respect and understanding that bind these communities together. This peaceful coexistence is a source of pride for all who call Ogbomoso home.
The Oyo-Ilorin Road is the main street of the town. A prominent landmark is the great square tower of the central mosque, which rises above the traditional walled compounds of private houses and the parts of the old wall that remain.
