Remembering AbdurRahman Lekki: A Legacy at the Lagos State Scholarship Board


AbdurRahman Lekki, the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board (LSSB) is dead. His Janazah was held in Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, Alausa at about 1.30 pm today. Later, the body left for Lagos Mainland Muslim Cemetery, Ofada, Ogun State.

A statement from the office of the Lagos State Head of Service on Wednesday, said, “With the total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, the Head of Service announces the sudden demise of Mr. Abdulrahman Lekki, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, which occurred in the early hours of today, 30th October, 2024, after a brief illness.

The Inspirational Legacy of Abdulrahman Lekki at the LSSB

The Lagos State Scholarship Board was established following the Lagos State Executive Council resolution LSEC (68) of October, 1968. Lagos State Scholarship Board started from a rented apartment in No 75 Brickfield Road, Ebute-Metta when it was established in 1968. It later moved from that rented house to a government building in Maryland in 1992. Few years later, the Board was on the move due to the State Primary Board which took over the office accommodation. On the 27th of February 1995, the Board moved to its present site at 254, Ipaja Road, Beside NYSC Orientation Camp, Agege.

The law establishing the Lagos State Scholarship Board was reviewed and assented to by His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN on 27th September, 2012. In July 2022, AbdurRahman was appointed as the Board Secretary of Lagos State Scholarship Board.

Last year, Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu approved the payment of N375,455,000.00 for both Fresh and Subsequent Scholarship and Bursary Awards. This fund is designated to alleviate the financial burdens faced by Lagosians pursuing higher education in the country.

Recently, the Lagos State Government has announced the removal of application fees for scholarships and bursaries offered by the Lagos State Scholarship Board (LSSB). Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the decision as part of efforts to enhance access to education.

Biography

Mallam AbdurRahman Lekki, a Life Coach with specialization in Leadership, change management, personal effectiveness and Financial Intelligence. He has 24 years proficiency with Public, Private and Multilateral Organizations in Sub Saharan Africa region. Before his death, capabilities include Management Consulting, Public Service Reforms Management, Business Process and Organizational Structure Design and Improvement, Mandate Mapping and Alignment.

Also, AbdurRahman is also a multiple Lagos State Public Service award recipient and before his death served as the Head of Consultancy Services Unit in Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, Lagos State.

Mallam AbdurRahman is also the Convener and Lead Faculty of Total Freedom Project, a not for profit, Leadership Training Academy committed to breeding future leaders. He was the pioneer Team Lead of A cube Business Club, a transformational and innovative club committed to building a world class, disruptive and highly scalable business development model for the working class.

He held a Higher National Diploma in Marketing, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration. Also, he is is a member of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and the Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered). In addition, he was an AIG Scholar of the Public Leaders Programme at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. He was married to two wives before his demise: Zulfah Abdulrahman Lekki and Abimbola Abdulrahman Lekki.
