Sokoto Government denies plot to dethrone Sultan

Sokoto

The Sokoto state government has urged Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to always double-check facts before commenting on crucial national issues, stating that it has no plans to remove the Sultan of Sokoto.

The state administration, in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Abubakar Bawa, and made accessible to reporters in the state on Tuesday, stated that the story about Sultan’s planned dismissal is untrue and the writer’s imagination. While speaking at the North West Peace & Security Summit in Katsina on Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima warned the Sokoto state government about an alleged plot to topple Sultan Muhammad Saad Abubakar II.

The statement continues, “This follows the Vice President’s recent remark in Katsina over the false allegation spreading that the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration intends to depose Sultan Muhammad Saad Abubakar.

“We truly expected the Vice President to consult with the Governor before going public.

“The state administration asks Vice President Shettima, as the country’s second-highest ranking citizen, to be well informed about national matters before commenting on them.

“As an elder statesman and father to everybody, he should have facts and data before passing judgment on matters brought by mischief makers and mushroom social media operators notorious for bad propaganda.

“The fact of the matter is that there was never any attempt to sack the Sultan nor have we sent him any threat regarding that.”

The statement also stated that the Sultan has all of the authority he is entitled to, and that “we never denied him any of his freedom or rights.”

“We do not need to be taught to guard, protect, and promote the Sultan; this is our sole job.

“The government and People of Sokoto cherish and adore the sultanate council and would do everything possible to protect the dignity of the revered institution.”
