The Kebbi Government claims to have authorized the state’s N3.34 billion subsidy allocation to 3,344 potential pilgrims who wish to do the Hajj in Saudi Arabia this year.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the approval was given in order to finalize the payment of the extra fares totaling around N2 million that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) had previously declared. The decision was made on Monday at an emergency Executive Council meeting in Birnin, Kebbi, which was chaired by the deputy governor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar-Tafida.
Speaking to reporters about the meeting’s outcome, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, stated that the action was a continuation of Governor Nasir Idris’s generosity in preserving religious principles for the sake of social harmony and peace.
“Pilgrims who completed payment of the fares would also enjoy the N1 million magnanimity from the government,” the commissioner went on to say.
N1 million each for Jigawa pilgrims.
Similarly, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has granted a N1 million subsidy for each prospective pilgrim from the state taking part in this year’s hajj exercise.
Alhaji Ahmed Umar Labbo, Director-General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, made the announcement Wednesday at a briefing in Dutse, the state capital.He explained that the sum contributed to each pilgrim was intended to help them pay their fees in full before the closing date.
Labbo voiced concern that this unexpected increase would provide issue for many intended pilgrims from the state who had already paid the entire amount before the additional cost was implemented.
He encouraged the pilgrims to pay the remaining N900,000 to the board. The director-general explained that individuals who have already made partial contributions to the board will be eligible for the hajj subsidy, which is designed to reduce the financial burden on prospective pilgrims from the state.
Fubara hailed for N80.6 million hajj subsidy.
Meanwhile, Hajiya Zainab Musa, the commissioner representing South-South at NAHCON, has praised the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for subsidizing the hajj fare for the state’s intended pilgrims.
The governor had approved the payment of an additional N1.9 million charge for each of the 42 intended pilgrims from the state, totaling N80.6 million.
Hajiya Zainab stated that the governor’s actions shown that he cares about the people regardless of their religious or political affiliations.
She thus called to other governors in the South South geopolitical zone to assist Muslims in their respective states in completing the hajj pilgrimage.
