The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has issued a strong call to action, urging the federal government to delve into the underlying factors contributing to the nation’s insecurity challenges.
President of the SCSN, Sheikh Abdurrasheed Hadiytullah emphasized the critical need for collaboration between the major Muslim ethnic groups, particularly the Hausa and Fulani communities, to foster unity and solidarity within the broader Muslim community.
Speaking at the recently concluded annual pre-Ramadhan gathering of the majis ash shurah in Kaduna state, Sheikh Hadiytullah highlighted the significance of overcoming historical and cultural divides. He emphasized that by harnessing their collective strengths, these communities could effectively address pressing issues such as poverty, education, and economic development.
Sheikh Hadiytullah noted that this collaborative approach would not only bolster the resilience of the Muslim Ummah but also lay the groundwork for sustainable solutions, paving the way for a more secure and prosperous future for the Muslim community in Nigeria and the wider region.
He explained that the focus of this year’s Ramadan meeting will be on a reflective analysis and future outlook of Shari’ah implementation in Nigeria. Additionally, there will be discussions on the Shari’ah’s stance regarding the leadership roles of women.
Addressing the responsibilities of elected leaders, Sheikh Hadiytullah stressed the Islamic principle of “Sayyidul qaum khaadimuhu” (the leader of a people is their servant). He urged leaders to be constantly reminded of the weight of their responsibilities, emphasizing the need to prioritize the welfare and well-being of those under their care.
The Council also urged the Ulama (Islamic scholars) to effectively convey and elaborate on key messages to the Muslim community. They emphasized the importance of collective prayers for lasting peace and viable solutions amidst the nation’s socio-economic challenges.
Muslims across Nigeria, the Council emphasized, should seek solace in their faith, fostering a deep connection with Allah SWT through sincere repentance and heartfelt supplication. Through prayer and unity, the community can beseech divine intervention for the resolution of the country’s myriad challenges.
During this sacred month of Ramadan and beyond, the Ummah (Muslim community) is called upon to fervently pray for peace in Nigeria and divine intervention in addressing acts of terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, ethno-religious crises, and other criminal activities.
In conclusion, Sheikh Hadiytullah urged all stakeholders, including the government, civil society, and the private sector, to collaborate effectively in addressing the root causes of insecurity. He emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies aimed at eradicating insecurity and fostering a more peaceful and harmonious society.
