We lost a teacher, a father and a mentor. He was one of those who groomed us from the scratch. If not for the foundation he and other teachers laid for us at Kwara College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), what would have become of us?
He was the first to open our eyes to Criminal Law, Islamic Law of Evidence and Islamic Jurisprudence. He was passionate about his job. He used not to come late to class and he used to respond to our questions no matter how busy he was.
He was also the first to expose us to court activities through the compulsory moot court trials. He gave some of us the rare opportunity to address a judge as students of law at Diploma level. I can never forget the day he was angry with us and he shed tears when he noticed some of us were not playing their role properly and it was about to affect the success of the programme. This showed how dedicated he was as a lecturer. We felt so sad that day and we apologized to him for our unseriousnes. Alhamdulillah, the moot trial happened to be one of the best in the history of the school.
The last time I visited Alhikmah University for a task, he held my hand and took me to his students saying many things about me just to encourage them to strive to become lawyers too. He was a humble man to the core. He was religious and kind. Everyone keep saying good things about him at the cemetery this evening.
The eyes is shedding tears, but there is nothing we can do about it. That is how Allāh wants it. Every soul must taste death. May Allāh forgive and mercy on our teacher, Bar. Ahmed Hanafi. May He grant him Aljannah Firdaus. Our teacher, Prof. Ibrahim Imam was his best friend. May Allāh console him and his entire family. May Allāh grant them fortitude to bear the loss.
