
On Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the 41st Founders Day and 31st and 32nd combined convocation of the Federal University of Technology Minna, FUTMinna, Abdulhakam Aminu Obejara was named the best graduating student for the academic year 2022–2023.
Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, the vice chancellor of the university, made this declaration during his speech at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square of the university. “The Federal University of Technology, Minna, FUTMinna is a Federal Government owned University in Nigeria. It was established on 1st February, 1983. The objective for its establishment is to give effect to the Nation’s drive for the much-needed self-reliance in Science, Engineering and especially Technology. It is a specialized University of Technology.”
Abdulhakam is a student in the School of Infrastructure Process Engineering and Technology, specifically studying mechanical engineering. For the 2022–2023 academic year, he was the University’s overall best graduating student. The best graduating student from the institution with a CGPA of 4.91 says “his desire for academic excellence is borne out of the constant thought of efforts at educating him made by his his father who is a staff sergeant in the Nigerian Army, and is currently in the frontline fighting against insurgents in the North East.”
FUTMinna graduates 7312 students in total at the ceremony, with 187 of them receiving first-class honors, according to the Vice Chancellor. The VC said that 2,190 other students will be graduating with second-class upper division degrees, explaining that 3,410 students will graduate with second-class lower division. “Professor Kuta added that 1,483 of the students will graduate with a third class and 42 students will graduate with pass degrees.”
