Muiz Olasupo, Best Graduating Student, MSc. Economics 2022/23 academic session, University of Lagos (UNILAG). Muiz shares how he graduated with distinction from the institution with 4.93/5.0 at its 54th convocation last week.
He describes how dedication, hard work, and passion have so far aided in his academic success at UNILAG. He says: “My academic journey has been a testament to dedication, hard work, and a passion in deepening my understanding of economics and honing my analytical skills.” “Throughout the course of my studies and beyond the academia, I dedicated myself to expanding my skill set. I’ve successfully strengthened my proficiency in utilizing tools such as MS Excel, EViews, R, STATA, Python, and SQL. These experiences have not only enhanced my technical capabilities but have further honed my analytical prowess.”

Research allows you to pursue your interests, to learn something new, to hone your problem-solving skills and to challenge yourself in new ways. Similarly, studies reveal that research helps restore and protect memory and enhances mathematic and problem-solving skills. Therefore, it prepares the mind for a better understanding of concepts and theories. A person’s learning capacity is improved and they can perform better in comparison who is reluctant to research.
Muiz echoes his excitement for his previous experience, analysis, and research. “My enthusiasm for research and analysis started when I joined the Postdoctoral fellowship program at the Centre for Econometrics and Applied Research (CEAR), Ibadan, as a fresh graduate of Economics from the University of Ibadan. This was handled by Professor Afees Salisu in 2021 where Econometrics and Econometrics tools were extensively explored. His insights in economic theories, Econometrics and Analysis in various fields inspire me a lot.”
“This enthusiasm was further intensified by my contact with Professor Olufemi Saibu in the University of Lagos. He took me through intensive exposures in the field of Economics and Research,”
“Additionally, I took the initiative to further equip myself in finance through EduBridge Academy. This experience allowed me to further refine my expertise in business writing, valuation, financial modeling, stock market analysis, MS Excel proficiency, and PowerPoint design and presentation. My motivation to explore the field of finance was further inspired by Dotun Isenere, MSc (Econs), ACI.”
