In an effort to ease the financial burden on parents grappling with escalating tuition fees in Nigeria, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria is urgently urging President Tinubu to implement the students’ loan policy due to the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
The appeal, voiced by the president of the MSSN Zone B, Qaasim Husayn, took place during their annual Islamic Vacation Course held in Ibadan.
TVC News’s Olaide Oyewole reported that the Student Loan Act was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu on June 12, providing easy access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students through interest-free loans to help them afford tertiary education. Following this development, the Federal Government announced a hike in student tuition fees across all government-owned universities in Nigeria.
In the 113th edition of its Islamic Vacation Course, the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria expressed concerns about the sudden increase, fearing that the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria could hinder many from affording their education fees.
At this year’s conference, themed “The Message and the Messenger,” the keynote speaker and various Islamic scholars highlighted the importance of global peaceful coexistence. Addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict, they advocated for a two-state solution and called for harmonious coexistence between the two nations.
The planners of this year’s conference aspire to motivate every devoted Muslim to promote the message of peace and moral uprightness in accordance with the guidance of Allah.
