On Saturday, 14th October, 2023, in the premises of TVC Communications, Lagos, Hikmah Abdulkareem of Al-Hikmah University International School (AUIS), Kwara State was crowned the 2023 TVC Communications Female Debate Champion and was awarded the grand prize of ₦1,000,000 by Union Bank.
Also, Glory Kalu of Ransome Kuti Memorial Senior Grammar School, Lagos was also awarded the sum of ₦500,000 as the second runner-up and Ejiofor Bliss of Eternal King Comprehensive College, Lagos who emerged third position was awarded the sum of ₦300,000.
The championship which was organized by TVC Women’s Network, was in line with the International Day of the Girl Child with the broad theme: Raising the next generation of young girls in a technologically advanced world.
The topic for the final debate was: Who should regulate the use of social media: parents or government? The five top finalists including Hikmah battled for one million Naira prize. Hikmah won the final debate with 345 points.
Meanwhile, about 105 contestants drawn all over the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria competed in the debate.
According to the organizers of the championship, the contest was meant, among others, to: nurture talents; inspire and Empowerment; open doors for incredible women in organizations, and pave the way for brighter future for the female child.
Hikmah AbdulKareem was accompanied to the venue by her school principal, Mrs Raliat Brimoh.
