Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan had conducted at least five hunger strikes in protest at detentions without charges by Israel since 2011, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
Earlier on Tuesday, Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan died in an Israeli prison,according to report, after 87 days of hunger strike in protest against his detention by Israeli occupation.
Born on March 24, 1978, in the town of Arrabeh near the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, Adnan was a baker by trade and graduated from Birzeit University with an undergraduate degree in mathematics.
According to his wife, Adnan was detained under administrative arrest warrants, as well as suffering from political arrests by the Palestinian Authority due to the Revolving Door policy.
He had a clear message not to negotiate with the occupier saying: “We will not recognize your fascist decisions, and we will take away our freedom whatever the sacrifices may be.”
He was arrested again on 5 February after being indicted for incitement and membership of a terrorist organisation, and began the hunger strike a few days later.
He was transferred from the maximum-security detention facility in the central Israeli city of Ramle to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.
Israeli human rights group HaMoked said, “Israel is currently holding more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees without charge or trial, the highest number since 2003.” Report indicated that there have been several high-profile cases of prolonged hunger strikes by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails in recent years, usually in protest at administrative detention. Although deaths are rare, many hunger strikers have suffered severe medical problems as a result.
Intensification, deserted streets, tears, and pain in Palestine
Yesterday, Palestinians called for a general strike in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and protesters rushed to illegal Israeli checkpoints while confronting the Israeli occupation forces. Also, the IOF fired tear gas and rubber bullets at crowds gathered at the northern entrance to the West Bank city of Ramallah in a bid to disperse them.

Also, Israeli jets struck in Gaza, after the death of Adnan in Israeli custody. Among the areas that were attacked included a Palestinian resistance outpost near the city of Khan Yunis in the South of the Gaza Strip.

“We do not want a drop of blood to be spilled.” Randa Mousa, the wife of Palestinian hunger striker Khader Adnan, says she and her family do not want any response such as rocket attacks in light of her husband’s death.
The general secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti, has called the death of Khader Adnan an “ugly assassination” whose purpose is to “break the spirit of resistance that Palestinian prisoners have”.
