First Crescent Moon of Ramadan Sighted in Nigeria- Sultan of Sokoto

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has announced the commencement of Ramadan fasting.

He noted that the crescent for the commencement of the Ramadan fasting has been sighted.

The Sultan Abubakar said Muslims in the country should commence fasting on Thursday, March 23 in a broadcast on NTA on Wednesday night.

Ramadan is one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar, and is marked by a period of fasting. Also, it is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. Those unable to fast, such as pregnant or nursing women, the sick, or elderly people and children, are exempt from fasting.
