Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais has been the imam of Masjid Al Haram for forty years as of Sha’ban 22. He is known for his magnanimous voice and for his emotional, overwhelming recitation of the Quran in accordance with Tajweed.
Born in the city of Qassim, Saudi Arabia in the year 1961, Abdul Rahman Ibn Abdul Aziz as-Sudais an-Najdi is a Saudi world renown Qari. At age 12, Al Sudais had memorized the Holy Qur’an, and completed his preliminary education in the ‘Al Muthana Bin Harith Elementary School ‘ and graduated in 1979 with excellent grades.
Similarly, the renowned Imam studied in Riyadh University – presently known as King Saud University, received a degree in Sharia in 1983, and a Master from the Sharia College of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in 1987. In 1995 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Islamic Sharia from Umm al-Qura University and he is one of the senior teachers in the Faculty of Sharia at the same place.
The youngest Imam recorded in the history of Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais first Salat was Asr on 22 Sha’ban 1404 when he was only 22 years old. He went on to become a world-renowned reciter and a familiar figure to all Muslims from all corners of the world. Meanwhile, he was selected to be the Islamic personality in 2005 (1426 of hegira) by Dubai organisation: International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA).
Sudais has spent four decades serving the Two Holy Mosques. Sheikh Sudais is currently overlooking the progress of the much talked about expansion of both Masjids in Makkah and Madinah, as the expansion in Masjid Al Haram targets completion at the earliest.
We ask Allah to bless his life, to benefit Islam and Muslims through him, and to reward him with the best reward.
