The first African Professor of Neuro-Physiotherapy, Tal-hatu Kolapo Hamzat, has passed on at the age of 52 Hamzat is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences; Fellow, Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy and other academies.

Professor T.K. Hamzat was born on 15th June 1970 in Ibadan. He died after a brief illness in the early hours of Wednesday at 52. Before his demise, he works as a Professor (Chair) at the Department of Physiotherapy, University of Ibadan.

Professor Fatai Adeniyi, Deputy provost of the College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan confirmed his death.

On Wednesday, about 4 o’clock, the Janaza prayers (prayer for the dead) were offered for him.

The dead was laid to rest in Ibadan at the University of Ife Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) Rest Park in the Ile-Igbon neighborhood of the Lagelu local government.

T.K. Hamzat is a teacher, researcher, clinician, and administrator within and outside the University system. His research focus is on Total Rehabilitation of Post-CNS Injured Individuals (with bias in stroke; cerebral palsy).

In addition to earning his Bachelor of Science (Honors) in March 1994 with a Second Class-Upper Division, Hamzat also earned his Master of Education (M.Ed.) in May 1998 in Physiology of Exercise and his PhD in Neurological Physiotherapy in February 2001.

He left behind a wife and three children.
