Jumu’ah Post: The Ugly Intra-faith Bashing Trend

The Ugly Intra-faith Bashing Trend By Ismail Abogunde

Our existence in different folks, as ordained by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), is centred upon learning to live in harmony while mixing up in dealings, marriages, cultures and in every endeavors within permissible range. Denying/refuting this basic arrangement, either by words or actions, is an ingredient to disarray in our society. As our same existence came to be, is also an accompanying phenomenon of humans not being equal in some life affairs such as knowledge, wealth, wellness, beauty, etc. This unequalness, if only we understand, has also been remedied by the process of those in possession of higher values being the uplifters of their lower values counterparts, upon which the world can be balanced to a reasonable extent. All these can only be achieved if our approaches take the path of intentional harmony.

It gets worrisome if intolerance gets in our way, in the name of religion, either on the “inter” or the “intra” scale and what it implies is the misunderstanding or ignorance of the adherents on the concept of dealing with harmony, through which the world can be a befitting abode. Bigotry would have no niche if open-mindedness to the concerns of our fellow humans is a priority.
It is all in what we virtually experience in our daily routine where some acclaimed religious sects will bash, and try tag as null, the religious communal doctrine of another faith. It has gotten so bad that those active in this act, who are supposedly knowledgeable about its ugly implication, don’t care of what becomes of the religion’s status. Then, it all makes no valid point if we destroy the source that what we support rests on. A case of shooting of oneself on the foot.

We can rant all we want, but a certainty is that the result we clamor for, can only be gotten through harmonious conversations and from there, we can watch the magical unfolding of the events we desire. Surely, no one can force anyone on a faith bidding and as such, violent bashing would do more harm in calling to people who are devoted to their perceived false doctrine to an acclaimed truth.

“To every People have We appointed rites and ceremonies which they must follow, let them not then dispute with you on the matter, but do invite (them) to your Lord: for you are assuredly on the Right Way. If they do wrangle with you, say,‘God knows best what it is you are doing. God will judge between you on the Day of Judgment concerning the matters in which you differ.” (Quran, Al-Hajj: 67-69).
