Nigeria Economic Summit Group Appoints Niyi Yusuf As New Chairman

A new leader of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group has been chosen. Asue Ighodalo will step down after the conclusion of the 28th summit, and Mr. Niyi Yusuf will succeed him. October 2018 marked the appointment of Mr. Ighodalo.

Niyi Yusuf has been chosen as the group’s chairman by the board of directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), a think tank run by the private sector.

This was said by Mr. Ighodalo in his statement at the summit in Abuja with the topic “2023 and Beyond: Priorities for Shared Prosperity.”

The Ministry of Budget & National Planning Commission and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) collaborate closely with appropriate public and private sector institutions to jointly organize the annual Nigerian Economic Summit (NES).

The Summit, which was started in 1993 by the Chief Ernest Shonekan-led Interim National Government, has remained the most important forum for dialogue between the public and private sector to discuss issues and challenges facing the development of our country, with a view to developing and harmonizing common strategies for addressing them.

NES aims at fostering open and continuous dialogue on Nigeria’s economic development.

Mr Ighodalo said, “Accordingly, at our last NESG Board meeting, Mr. Niyi Yusuf, who served as my first Vice-Chairman, was elected to succeed me as the Chairman of the NESG.”

One of the outstanding global leaders at the NESG, Mr. Yusuf is the managing partner of Verraki Africa and a former country managing director at Accenture. Over the course of more than ten years, he has held virtually all “paying to serve” positions within the NESG community.

Adding that,“Under his leadership, I am confident of the NESG’s surefootedness for the task ahead in advancing Nigeria’s economic reforms.”

He earned a computer science and economics degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. Before joining Verraki, he worked for more than 30 years at Accenture, Arthur Andersen, and JKK.

Mr. Yusuf played a key role in creating the platforms for Interswitch, CRC Credit Bureau, and Shared Services as well as other pieces of the infrastructure required for the Nigerian banking industry.

Osagie Okunbor, the chairman of Chairman Shell companies in Nigeria, Boye Olusanya, the GMD/CEO of Flour Mills of Nigeria, and Amina Maina Group COO MRS, will serve as Mr. Yusuf’s assistants on the board as vice chairs.

Similarly, Mr. Olaniyi Mumini Yusuf is the current President of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT).

The appointment of Mr. Yusuf is a call to service, an offshoot of his resourcefulness, innovative capacity, and many years of professional experience in the private sector, according to a statement from Fountain University’s vice chancellor, Prof. Amidu Olalekan Sanni.

Prof. Sanni said, “While expressing his confidence that Mr. Yusuf knows his onions and has what it takes to deliver in the new role, he prayed to Allah to grant him divine wisdom to sail through the new journey.”
