MUSWEN Celebrate Prof. Noibi with Book Launch in Ibadan

In honour of its founding Executive Secretary, Prof. Dawud Olatokunbo Shittu Noibi (OBE), the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) will present a book in Ibadan on Saturday, November 26.

The formal book presentation will equally serve as a send-forth for the revered Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, according to a statement by the Chairman Planning Committee, Prof. Muibi Opeloye.

The occasion slated at Conference and Event Centre, University of Ibadan, Muslim Community from 11am, will be chaired by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President of MUSWEN.

Furthermore, Opeloye noted that the book, which has contributions from scholars around the world, will be reviewed by Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Kwara State University, Malete while Alhaji Sa’eed Alao, Managing Director, Blue Prints Technologies, will present the book to the public.

In addition, a complementary book of tributes entitled: “Professor Noibi, an icon in the eyes of the people” will also be presented, the Professor of Comparative Religion said.

It is expected that some Muslim personalities and groups across Nigeria will grace the occasion, the statement added.

Biography

Prof. Dawud Shittu Noibi was born was born on 9 January 1934 in Sapele, Bendel State and attended Rodicus School, Sapele between 1950 and 1945, Muslim Teachers’ Training College, Ijebu-Ode between 1956 and 1957, Government Teachers’ Training College, Surulere, Lagos between 1961 and 1962. He obtained the Bachelor of Arts. Degree in Arabic Studies from the University of Cairo, Egypt, 1969. Master of Arts in Islamic Studies from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, 1972 and the Ph.D in Islamic Studies from the University of Ibadan, 1984. He has attended local and international conferences.

He was a primary school teacher between 1955 and 1964 and a translator and broadcaster, Egyptian Radio Corporation from 1966 to 1972. He then became an education officer, North-Eastern State of Nigeria (now Borno State) between January and December, 1973 before he became a lecturer in Islamic studies at the University of Ibadan in 1973 and retired as a professor in 1996. For a brief period, he taught Islamic Law at the Muslim College, London while serving as Islamic consultant to IQRA Trust, London, a British Muslim Educational body.

He has received a number of awards including Order of the British Empire (OBE), by the late Queen Elizabeth II of England, D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) of the Crescent University, FISN and FIAC. Prof. Noibi is married to Silifat Anike Agunbiade.
