More 4,000 secondary school students participated in the Conference for Secondary School Muslim Students (COSSMUS), which took place in 16 different locations throughout Oyo State from Wednesday, November 3, to Sunday, November 6, 2022.

Olaiya Abdulrahman Olawale Esq. PRO, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Oyo State Area Unit on 12th November, 2022 noted that the conference has been one of the most celebrated programmes of the MSSN as it is targeted at impacting the lives of secondary school students and mentoring them to be better leaders in the society.

The conference

Mallam Abdulrahman Elegbede, , the Director, Directorate of Secondary School Coordination (DSSC), said that the program is aimed at ensuring that Secondary School Students (and by extension their Primary School Counterparts) across the 16 Area Councils under MSSN Oyo State Area Unit are positively engaged during their midterm Holiday Breaks

Furthermore, he gave an assurance that a perpetual COSSMUS attendee, by Allah’s Mercy, would be reformed and in turn influence his/her friends with positive lessons learned from the well-structured programmes.

Akinyele Area Council in the Ibadan/Ibarapa Area Office had the most participants overall, with 796 delegates from 47 Secondary Schools. Molete Oke-Ado Area Council came in second with 358 delegates, and Lagelu Area Council came in third with 309 delegates.

The foremost muslim students body said: In Oyo/Ogbomoso Area Office, Oyo Area Council took the lead with 295 Delegates. This was followed by Ogbomoso Area Council with 240 delegates and Afijio Area Council with 69 delegates.

Adding that from Oke-Ogun Area office, Old Irepo Area Council took the shocking lead with 432 Delegates, followed by Iseyin Area Council with 281 delegates and Saki/Ifedapo Area Council with 230 delegates.

Others include Aperin Elekuro Area – 178 Delegates, Agodi Gate Area Council – 140 Delegates, Kajola/Iwajowa Area Council – 130 Delegates, Sango Area Council – 123 Delegates, Ibarapa Area Council – 104 Delegates, Apata Area Council – 98 Delegates and Eleyele Area Council with 94 Delegates.

Massive Turnout

The Amir, MSSN Oyo State Area Unit, Engr. Abdulkabir Alamalyakeen expressed his satisfaction with the leadership of the 16 Area Councils for the conduct of the Conference, especially the record-breaking turnout. He also commended the effort of the Director DSSC, Mallam Abdulrahman Elegbede for the unprecedented achievement.

“Secondary school is the real foundation of MSSN as a society,” Mallam Abdulkabir stated in his statement. “Without proper coordination of Secondary schools, the society is deemed to have failed in its primary assignment.” He further implored all Area Council leadership to continue their efforts till the organization has properly coordinated with all Muslim students in Oyo State.

The only path, in Amir Alamayakeen’s opinion, that could help sustain the legacy they had built was for MSSN leaders and stakeholders to always release their children and wards to undergo the COSSMUS training and other society’s programs.

Speaking on the condition of secondary schools nationwide, Mr. Elegbede stated that secondary schools are in a state of chaos; “Where Secondary School students are perturbed about; what to wear than what to read, what kind of phone to buy than what kind of textbook and Where female students are already hooking up all in the name of hustles and Students care less about learning since they are well assured of their Final Exams Miracle Centres”

Therefore, he pleaded with all parties involved to work with MSSN to oversee the Secondary School Coordination and give adequate attention to ensuring that every young Nigerian receives a better education.
