At the ongoing surgical and medical outreach project carried out by Physicians Across Continents,PAC, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, SOZECOM, and IMAN in the state, no less than 90 needy patients had successful operations, and close to two thousand more received healthcare services. Physicians Across Continents (PAC) is an international medical humanitarian organisation that provides high-quality medical care, teaching and training worldwide.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwa, speaking through the secretary to the state government Alh Mainasara Ahmad MNI, said that the development as historic for the state being a home in a statement made before the site was commissioned.
Alh Mainasara Ahmad said the current administration has intervened massively in the health sector by constructing and upgrading scores of health facilities across nook and cranny of the state. He therefore assured of widening collaboration with Physicians Across Continents for the development of the health of its citizens at all times.
Governor Tambuwa acknowledged the role played by zakat commission towards the improving the health and economic status the good people of Sokoto State.
Commissioner of health Dr Muhammad Ali Mname made known at the formal Commissioning and handing ceremony Physicians Across Continents Temporary Country Office held at SOZECOM New Secretariat Tudun Wada Area Sokoto South Local Government. Represented by director medical services in the ministry Dr Shuaibun Muhammad Gobir the commissioner assured of the State government commitment support for it offer more humanitarian services to the good people of Sokoto State.
Speaking the Executive Chairman SOZECOM Malam Muhammad Lawal Maidoki Sadaukin Sakkwato announced that provision of the office for the PAC was in fulfilment of the state government promise t following request by PAC for the temporary office.
The edifice according to him consists of two well equipped offices, conference and guest rooms with fully fenced premises. Similarly he said, “the state government has also approved the immediate posting nursing staff to the country office adding that a plot of land would soon be allocated for the erection PAC permanent Nigeria Country Headquarters.” He expressed optimism that with acquisition of the country office PAC would be able to carry out its operations smoothly not only in Sokoto but also across the neighbouring states and countries with relative comfort.
Furthermore, Sadaukin Sakkwato indicated that in addition to surgery carried out at Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University Teaching Hospital and Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, medical outreach was also conducted SOZECOM Waqf Hospital, Yabo District, Correctional Centre Sokoto, Kalambaina as well as Achida districts respectively.
Dr. Sa’ad Ali Algarni, the head of PAC team of surgeons, expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Sokoto State for their hospitality throughout their time in the seat of caliphate and for the mandate given to them to humanity.
The leader of Tudun Wada, Alhaji Muhammad Dan Mallam, as well as directors from SOZECOM, members of the press, and representatives of religious organizations are present.
