The World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) is a truly global competition for high school debaters. WSDC takes place in a different country each year. Some of the recent host nations include Peru, Qatar, South Korea, Greece, South Africa, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, Indonesia, and Croatia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mexico WSDC 2020 and Macau WSDC 2021 were held online.
Students from Kwara who just represented Nigeria at the World Schools Debate in Dubai. These youngsters, who attend a variety of Kwara State public schools, placed second in the global competition while representing Nigeria.
The students are: Adenifuja Quareebulahi (Ilorin Grammar School); Amudalat Agboola, Dumoye Sherifudeen (Offa Grammar School), Halimat Mohammed (United Junior Secondary School); Adisat Jaji Robiat, Apaokagi Fausiyat (Government Day Pakata).
This year’s edition of the World Schools Debating Championship, the debating world cup for secondary level students, was hosted by International Debate Education Association (IDEA), WSDC is said to be the highest and most prestigious platform for competitive high school debating in the world. The 2022 WSDC Championship took place online from August 7 to 18.
