Although the Boko Haram Insurgency has had a devastating effect on the lives of many youths in the North East, where many were dispersed, frustrated, fired from their jobs, and some became hopeless with no future ambition, it is a challenge for others to push through the insurgency period and fulfill their lifelong ambition. Abubakar Abba Dalori is one of those aspirational young people who dared to dream of the future and wanted to make it a reality, refusing to be crushed by the insurgency issue.
A Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri engineering alumnus, Abba Dalori has constructed a flying automobile, a scooter bike, and a mini jeep.
In Borno, he tested a prototype vehicle that could fly. The flying car has “two rotor winds ” at the top and back that it uses to create lift. It can travel on the road like a regular car.
He discussed his background, the difficulties his startups face, how the government can help him, and other topics in this interview with The Muslim Voice NG. Excerpts:
MV: Can you elaborate a bit on your education pathway to your current function?
AD: My name is Abubakar Abba Dalori, an indigene of Maiduguri, Borno State. I lost my parents both mother and father when I was young, but that didn’t stop me from achieving my dreams.
I graduated from Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Borno State with Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the year 2015.
MV: What kind of projects are you involved with?
AD: I have invented Mini jeep, a prototype of a flying car and a scooter bike.
MV: Can you name a milestone in your career?
AD: There are so many, it’s hard to name one in particular. I have invented many things the one I mentioned earlier are the big ones. The Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Isa Marte Hussaini visited me in my garage two weeks ago. He gave me his word that I would receive training and financial assistance from the government, and after that he asked me to make suggestions to the government on how the State Government could help me.
MV: What difficulties do you encounter while pursuing your passions?
AD: My biggest obstacles include lack of finance, a lack of research and development facilities and a shortage of locally produced materials. Some are cheap, while others are expensive. I rent the majority of the tools I use because I don’t have the right ones to do the project on time.
If we are able to lay hands on the resources, I assure you that we will make Nigeria the giant in research. The skill is there. The majority of the material I use in all of my current work is local, and I think this is the best course of action.
MV: How will your industry or job in particular change over the next few years? How do you keep up?
AD: I want the federal and state governments, as well as other corporate organizations, to assist me and retrain me so that I may fulfill my aspirations of opening the business and help Nigerian youths earn the necessary local and exportable skills.
