Sokoto Zakat and Endowment Commission (SOZECOM) has launched a plan to enroll the benefited orphans in primary, junior, and senior secondary schools situated inside the metropolis in an effort to ensure the wise use of the monthly scholarship awards by the Qatar Charity Foundation.
Executive Chairman of the commission Malam Muhammad Lawal Maidoki Sadaukin Sakkwato made this known while addressing mothers and guardians of the orphans during a meeting held at the commission premises. According to him the scholarship grants was intended to support the education and wellbeing of the beneficiaries through his commission.
Under the arrangement orphans from Gandi IDPs, Shagari district , Dundaye district, Hamma’ Ali as well those from Area Talakawa, of Sokoto Garka district would admitted into various schools to enable them continue with their education.
Malam Muhammad also explained that part of the orphans stipend would be used to assist their mothers and guardians establish small businesses of their choice. Commenting the Director Waqf of the commission, Muhammad Jabbi Ibrahim enumerated the selected schools to include Ahmad Sarkin Gona Community School kofar Marke Area Sokoto for orphans from Area Talakawa while Almajiri Integrated School for orphans from the rest of the benefiting district areas.
Some of the parents thanked the commission for this initiative and assured of their support for its success. The briefing has in attendance by members of the coordinating committee headed by Abubakar Ya’u among others.
Also at the end of the meeting, a hundred and six beneficiaries received twenty thousand from their stipend deposited in their respective bank accounts.
