Sheikh (Dr.) Yusuf al-Qaradawi رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ, the president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) and a well-known Muslim scholar, passed away on Monday, according to his official Twitter account. He was born in Egypt.

More than 120 works by Qaradawi have been written, including Islam: The Future Civilization and The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam. He is regarded as one of the most important Islamic scholars alive today and has received eight international awards for his services to Islamic scholarship.

Ibn Taymiyya, Ibn Qayyim, Sayyid Rashid Rida, Hassan al-Banna, Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi, Abul A’la Maududi, and Naeem Siddiqui are among the authors who influenced him.

The “Sharia and Life” program on Al Jazeera, which has an estimated audience of 40–60 million people globally, is where Qaradawi is best known.

He was also well-known for IslamOnline, a website he co-founded in 1997 and serves as chief religious scholar.
