The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), under the leadership of Alhaji Oladejo Rasaki, Deputy President of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), hosted a N10 billion Endowment Fund Launch in Lagos on Yawmul Ah’ad (Sunday) 28th of Safar 1444AH. MUSWEN is the umbrella body for all Muslims in South Western Nigeria as represented by the State.

The Oriental Hotel on Victoria Island in Lagos hosted the MUSWEN N10 billion Endowment Fund Launch.

The fund was intended to create a top-notch National Secreatariat, Resource, and Entrepreneurial Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, according to a statement from the organizing committee’s chairman, Alhaji Lere Alimi, and the executive secretary of MUSWEN, Prof. Muslih Yahya.

The centre’s main goals will be to support young people in developing practical commercial skills, the ability to launch and expand businesses, and access to finance and financing options.

Prof Yahya said, “The centre is designed to have many components including entrepreneurial centre for business development services, counseling, training and skill acquisition services, 100-guest chalets, Jumah mosque, shopping and multi-purpose halls, banquets and restaurants among others.”

According to Alhaji Oladejo, MUSWEN will establish a Trust deed following the event. The activities of its members will be distinct from those of the organization’s main body, and the trustee will oversee the fund.

Additionally, he announced that the fund will occasionally be audited by an international audit company, the results of which would be made public and each contributor given the appropriate notice.

During his introductory remarks, Alhaji Sulaimon Adegunwa (represented by Dr. Abdullateef Tayo Lawal) noted that the fund is preferable to relying on donor fatigue and he reassured the Ummah that the fund will be utilised for the desired project (s).

Dr. AbdulRauf Olawale Babalakin (SAN), chairman of the Bi-Courtney Group, gave the keynote address. He advised MUSWEN to grow its membership to include people from all over the South Western region by educating Muslims who are less educated about Islam. In order to be able to accomplish their aims and objectives, he also counsels Muslim groups to be strategic in their donation-seeking.

Alhaji Tajudeen Fola Adeola, stated in his speech that “such planned centre should not only be in Ibadan but elsewhere for empowerment of all categories of people.”

In his remarks, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar urged everyone to give to the cause, regardless of their religious identity, because doing so would benefit humanity. He continued by saying that if we adhere to the principles of Islam, such as supporting one another, paying Zakat, establishing Waqaf…., there is no need for a Muslim to be poor. We don’t belong in poverty, but Almighty Allah tests us in a variety of ways, he continued. Additionally, he advocate for Muslim unity as well.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar was praised by Professor Daud Noibi for his efforts to spread Islam throughout the world and for his assistance to MUSWEN and its members.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, commended the efforts of religious leaders who have contributed to the peaceful coexistence within the state in ensuring that Lagosians continue to live in peace despite religious differences.

“The plan is a good one and it will provide to people what is missing today such as access to finance, education, and health care,” Dr. Hamzat said in his speech. Additionally, a facility like that will lessen intolerance in our society, he added.
