Oloyede, Hussein Oyelola Bukoye Ph.D , FNSBMB; FNISEB; FSAN; is now a retired Professor of Biochemistry University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.
Professor Oloyede is an indegene of Offa in Kwara State, Nigeria. He had his B.Sc and M.Sc Biochemistry degrees at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria , 1976 and 1981 respectively. He later on had his Ph.d degree (1986) at Strathclyde University Glasglow.
Professor Oloyede joined the services of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria in 1977 as a Graduate Assistant. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 1995. He has successfully supervised numerous B.Sc, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Some of these students are also Professors,Deans and Directors today. During his active years of service, he mentored Vice-chancellors, research directors, and other Professors, notably the current vice-chancellor of FUTA Professor Adenike Oladiji among others. Prof. Oladiji said, “He taught us critical thinking skills, hard work, diligence, objectivity, and fairness as well as perseverance.”
He is a prolific writer having several publications including monographs, international journal articles and conference proceedings to his credit. He has travelled extensively to various countries attending conferences and presenting scientific papers of international standard. He has served as External Examiner for various Universities within Nigeria and abroad, served as Editor-in-chief and member of editorial board of several journals.
He has held several positions within the university which includes Head of Department, Dean of Faculty of Science, as well as serving on several commitees of Senate like the Development Commitee and the Selection Board for Vice-Chancellor and other Principal Officers. He has participated as a member of the Planning and Implementation Commitee (PIC) of several Universities, including Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Summit University, Offa; Proposed University of Offa;Proposed City Model University, Iropora Ekiti and Proposed Warri University, Warri.
Professor Oloyede is a recipient of several awards including Unilorin Staff Development Award (1982-1986); Commonwealth Academic award (1983-1986); Olumbe Bassir Lecturer for the NSBMB Annual Conference, 2008; Silver Award by Offa Local Government towards the development of Offa (2010); Award as Keynote Speaker for the 2012 Conference of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN); Award of Excellence by the Unilorin Postgraduate Students’ Association in respect of Research; Award as Keynote Speaker at the Third International Conference on Engineering Professional Ethics and Education (ICEPEE 2013): 2017 Unifemga Honours Award; 2017 Global Links Award for Outstanding Leadership in recognition of uncommon and Sterling contribution to Grassroot Developments; Award of Excellence in recognition of my contributions to the Growth and Development of Fountain University Alumni Association (2018); Ansar-Ud-Deen National Special Merit Award (2018), Award of Excellence by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Youth Association of Nigeria (ADYAN) Kwara Zone (2018) and Award of Excellence by NASFAT For Meritorous service to FUO (2019). At the level of Offa where he hails from, he is the President of Offa Club 80 and the pioneer Chairman of Offa Professors Forum.
On September 10 2022, the Oloyede family foundation organized an event marking the retirement of Prof. Oloyede at the University of Ilorin Multi Purpose Hall, University of Ilorin. The event features a prayer session and a lecture with the topic, ” The Imperative of Living an Impactful Life, which was presented by Prof. M.A Akanji FAN, pioneer VC Al-Hikmah University and former VC FUTMINA.
The acting Registrar of Fountain University, Osogbo, Mr. Sherrif Adenekan, the management in a congratulatory message seen by Musli Voice NG, noted how they cherished the uncommon direction Prof. Oloyede gave the university in its formative years, which undoubtedly served as compass and roadmap to other Vice Chancellors that came after him. “Needless to say that the University has been advancing in leaps and bounds since you came on board until this present moment, and this is a historic tribute to your visionary leadership which was also reflected at another university where you also served as a pioneer Vice Chancellor“, the letter added.
