Allah, Al-Musawwir, in His absolute might, has fashioned the universe, both living and non-living entities of it, in a way that gives a perfect synergy of productive output. Part of this universal system includes the designed roles, manners, disposition and responsibilities of man and woman, which have been undisputedly highlighted in factual and knowledge-filled scripts within the religious and some reasonable secular folds. To go against The ruling and setting of The Supreme Designer is a disservice to Him, as well as humanity.

The idea of females gender opposing Allah’s order of placing their gender counterparts (males) on a higher rank – to give a social theory or political movement which provides the removal of legal and social restrictions on women in a bid to bring about equality of the sexes in all aspects of public and private life – has created a marrow-deep pain in the structure of gender uniqueness in various parts of the world, hence, the cry to analyze the matter, hoping to seek for a way out of the avoidable mess.

The expression of men being put above women should not be gotten twisted to mean women are inferior entities with no use. In fact, women are highly reverenced by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and their status in every aspect of their being are beneficial for those they are made upon.

The woman is a mother and it is said that “Paradise lies under her feet” (reported by Al Tabarani). In an authentic hadith, the Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) was asked by a man: ‘Who is the one most worthy of my care?’. The Prophet replied: ‘Your mother‘. The man asked: ‘Then whom?’. He replied: ‘Your mother‘. The man further asked: ‘Then whom?’. He replied: ‘Your mother’. The man asked: ‘Then whom?‘. And in this fourth time, the Prophet replied: ‘Then your
father.‘ This signifies the importance of sticking more on giving values to mothers, as prescribed by Allah.

A woman is also a wife who is a source of comfort for her husband as he is to her: {And among His signs is this, that He created wives from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts)} (Surat Al-Rum (30), ayah 21). Allah also said: {They are like a garment to you and you are like a garment to them} (Surat Al-Baqara (2), ayah 187).

Other verified-as-authentic sources point out the social relationship attributes of women such as daughters, sisters and their benefits to their direct relatives, as well as the world at large, and there is factually nowhere within Islam in which women have been described as evil or not worthy of the goodness of the world.

In furtherance, both men and women have rights which are branched into different tributaries of: right upon each another and rights upon others. To know and acknowledge this, is a peace ingredient, rather than devising ways to boycotting what Allah has placed on the man, which makes him occupier of the top part of creation’s niche, mostly due to inferiority complex, feeling of being cheated and men not being the only one deserving of claimed “goodies” of life. SubhanAllah!! We don’t have to find Allah’s commandments soothing, for us to abide, but the mindset that whatever He decrees – whether sweet or bitter – is for our own betterment.

Men are appointed guardians over women (Ch. 4, v. 35). Wives have rights corresponding to those which husbands have, in equitable reciprocity, though, in certain and sensitive situations, men would have the final word and thus enjoy a preference. Allah is Mighty, Wise. (Ch. 2, v. 229).

As men have rights, so do women. It does not matter which one appeals to us as “fanciful” or “fanciless,” the thought of which can possibly breed the scenario of hateful feminism. He has appointed each gender their roles according to their strengths in what they can bear and weaknesses in what they cannot bear. He does not over burden us, so as not wear us out and He will not bestow favours that He knows will make us loose guard, for He is the Best Creator and Most Knowledgeable.

Taking heed to His words and that of the noblest of Creation, Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ), in all affairs of life, is a self awareness that sets the being in the right course and of course, the soul into unfaltering peace. May Allah keep strengthening us to keep on the right path, Aameen.
