Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede is the Secretary General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council. He is a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and the current Registrar and Chief Executive of Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

Islam is the religion of peace and security, so it wants a peaceful society. The religion orders us not to cheat or betray other people. Honesty and integrity are the best qualities. A Muslim is ordered by Allah to be truthful in his words and deeds, privately and publicly alike. Honesty is a good attribute and a blessing of Almighty Allah. Almighty Allah gives this attribute to whomever He wills. Honesty in words implies telling the truth in all situations and under all circumstances.

A few years ago, Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede performed a miracle at the National Mosque in Abuja. It is customary for the mosque committee to solicit money for maintenance of the mosque after each Jumu’at prayer.

Prof. Oloyede noted that the amount of money collected after each Jumu’at prayer was always between N13,000 and N14,000. Long has this been the case. So, he made the decision to personally place N13,000 into the box one day, marking the notes without the collectors’ knowledge.

The entire amount raised didn’t exceed N13,000 and the specific notes each collector dropped were missing after they had gone around the mosque to collect money from as many dignitaries as were typically present. OK, no issue!

On the following Friday, he arrived at the Mosque carrying special boxes that were locked and had their keys kept on him.

He opened the boxes after the event and discovered over N400,000! As usual, the collectors went around the Mosque as dignitaries placed their cash directly into the boxes. Over N400,000, indeed!

Instantaneously, the collectors vanished! Nearly everywhere, this occurs. People have turned against their faith and conscience out of a love of wealth. Other religious centers such as Churches are not excluded in this matter. There is corruption everywhere.

Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, a Professor of Arabic and Islamic Jurisprudence, has contributed approximately N30 billion in operating surplus from the Board over the last five years to the Federal Government’s coffers, despite the fact that the institution he leads is not considered to be one that generates money by the government. As part of its operational surplus for 2021, JAMB transferred N3.51 billion to the national treasury last year.
