The Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State has finished construction on a major mosque () worth several million naira. Kaltungo Central Mosque can accommodate 2,300 worshippers and has an additional 600 spaces for other people, including women’s and library sections.

The inauguration was attended by the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Former Military Administrator of Bauchi State, Alhaji Rasheed Adisa Raji, His Highness Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar bn Umar bn Amin Elkaneni, and other traditional leaders, Chairmen and CEOs of Federal Government Parastatals, among many others.

Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, the Chairman of the Mosque Building Committee and Secretary to the Gombe State Government, spoke on Saturday during the inauguration. He noted the project for the reconstruction of the Central Mosque, which was initially built in 1968 to fulfill the wishes of the Late Ahmadu Bello, Sardaunan Sokoto.

According to Njodi, the reconstruction of the mosque was borne out of a general concern and desire of the people of Kaltungo.

Njodi said, “We felt that Kaltungo needed an ultra-modern mosque befitting of the emerging image of Kaltungo.”

He claims that the 16-member committee was constituted by the Mai Kaltungo in December 2017, adding that works on the site commenced in 2018.

“On the receipt of the design and bills to the tune of N250m, the committee engaged in aggressive fundraising efforts. This yielded sufficient results for the project to commence.

“The reconstructed mosque has the capacity for 2,300 worshippers. It has a women’s section, a library, and convenience toilets for males and females. The mosque has sufficient premises to the northern and southern flanks to accommodate an additional 600 worshippers,” Njodi said.

Construction of a Mosque has rewards- Sheikh Ali Pantami

Also speaking, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ali Pantami, serves as the Guest Speaker where he speaks on the essentiality of establishing Masjeed to serve as the centre of excellence in teaching, learning and societal reorientation, among others.

Prof. Pantami said that construction of a worship place, has rewards, adding that it was based on the teachings of Islam.

He said, “A mosque is not just a place of worship but also an institution of learning, a center for dialogue, orientation as well as rehabilitation, skills acquisition and community development.

“The first and second universities ever established in the world started from a mosque in Morocco and Egypt, hence, this reconstructed Kaltungo Central Mosque should not be limited to prayers and reading of the holy Quran.

“It should be used to ensure unity, community development, and a center where experts in business and other professionals will be used to positively engage the youths.”

Governor Yahaya calls for tolerance and love in Gombe State

The governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, urged residents to practice love and tolerance for one another in order to promote the state’s rapid development.

The Governor urged people to continue supporting his administration in its efforts to build the essential infrastructure required for the State’s socioeconomic development.

Governor Yahaya praised the vision of Mai and the people of Kaltungo in starting the reconstruction and refurbishment of the Mosque and expressed gratitude to everyone who helped with the building project.
