In the Egyptian city of Aswan, a 10-year-old girl by the name of “Marwa” sells tissues.
She hastened to see a children’s marathon from a distance before sprinting forward to inquire about joining in.
Marwa wanted to compete and wanted to win even though she didn’t have the 200 pounds required for participation, the appropriate sports shoes, or the appropriate gear.
This young child was not denied the opportunity to play by the organizers. Marwa ran barefoot. She chased after them like she used to do when she tried to sell them tissues on the street. She ran as if she were flying into the skies to embrace the finish line, running with the pride of the underprivileged.
She won the gold medal and placed first, shocking and astounding everyone.
Marwa was in a bad situation, but she still had confidence in herself and didn’t let obstacles or setbacks stop her from achieving her objective.
