Emir of Qatar Named ‘World’s Most Influential Muslim’

Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar is recognized as the “World’s Most Influential Muslim.”

The Muslim 500’s list of the 50 most influential Muslims world named Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at number one.

At the age of 33, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani succeeded his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, as the Emir of Qatar after the latter’s abdication in June 2013. The richest nation in the world is Qatar, which has a $63,505 GDP per person. Less than 400,000 of its three million residents are nationals; the rest are foreign workers. It has the third-largest natural gas reserves in the world and is the top exporter of liquefied natural gas.

The fourth son of Sheikh Hamad, Sheikh Tamim, was selected as Crown Prince in August 2003. His mother is the influential Sheikha Moza, a public figure who continues to support social and educational issues.

Prior to graduating from the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, he finished his studies at a private school in the United Kingdom (in 1998). Sheikh Tamim gained experience in a variety of fields while serving as Crown Prince (2003–2013), including security (he was deputy commander of the armed forces), finance (he was chairman of the Qatar Investment Authority), and sports. Qatar’s successful bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup was oversaw by Sheikh Tamim.
